Notes on Recent Burglaries

Most burglaries are through windows, back or side doors. Both recent isolated burglaries with no suspect leads, occured after workers have been on site. Daytime burglaries in isolated driveways occur as thieves drive vehicle to house and depart with valuables in vehicle. Missing items include stolen yard items and small valuables (jewelry, laptops, etc.)

Ways to protect your property:
Install thumb screws on windows and/or install 3M “shatterproof” window film. Install a steel plate at the door lock (especially side and back doors.) Take picture of jewelry and small items; keep them safe. Home safes which are bolted to the foundation are effective. Personal cameras with a DVR are an effective method of surveillance. Be cautious about posting “free” Craigslist items with your address.

Neighborhood Protection Ideas:
Establish a “neighborhood sticker” for display in cars. Report any cars in the neighborhood without a sticker. Be mindful of men in trucks without a neighborhood sticker. Install neighborhood entrance cameras.

Security Audits
The Sheriff’s office conducts free security audits and completes a valuable inventory. Contact Laurie Bains. Some home insurance companies offer a 5-10% discount. Call the Sheriff’s office to inform them if you will be on vacation; a patrol will come to your house several times a day for free
